Hailakandi, July 4 : AIUDF MLA Nizam Uddin Choudhury, on June 4, was granted bail by a court in Hailakandi, six days after he was arrested on charges of beating a BJP MLA.
The MLA was arrested based on a case filed by BJP leader Ataur Rahman Laskar who accused the legislator of attempt to murder.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at the Panchgram Police Station under case number 59/23, Laskar detailed a harrowing account of the attack. He stated that Choudhury and his accomplices intercepted his private car bearing registration number AS-01-FH-3978 and launched a vicious assault using sticks and rods.

Meanwhile, Nizam Uddin Choudhury was given a rousing welcome by his supporters after the bail was granted. Speaking to the media persons, Choudhury said that he has done nothing and was trapped under a false case as he raised his voice against the illegal trade of Burmese betel nut.
Nizam Uddin openly accused his other two party colleagues, Hailakandi MLA and Katlicherra MLA, of conspiring to put him in jail. “At night, trucks carrying betel nut are escorted as if some VIP movements are there. Katlicherra MLA is also involved in this and I can say it with 100% surety” he said while speaking to the media persons.
