Art and Design Fest explores the realm of creativity from Barak Valley

Silchar, Nov 19 : Loaded with umpteen possibilities in art and design, Barak Valley is teeming with immense potential to present to the world a wide array of design.

In a bid to explore the realm of design from nook and corner of the valley and give the young creative minds a platform to learn more of the domain, art and design NGO Redesign, design cell has organised a two-day art and design fest here, the inauguration of which was done on Saturday.

Elaborating on the idea behind the event, Gautam Dutta, the honorary president of Redesign said, “Redesign-Design Cell, is run by the Applied Art Alumni of the Department of Visual Arts, Assam University Silchar. the festival of art and design along with research intervention in creative pursuit will not only showcases the unique artworks of the alumni for the art fraternity of the region but will also initiate a step towards bringing together thought leaders, professionals, and practitioners of art and design from industry, and academia. This will provide an opportunity and platform for students, young design aspirants and researchers to interact with them to explore more in the field through talk cum presentation on research intervention in creative approach, counselling session for senior school students who wish to pursue career in art and design giving an exposure and awareness on various competitive examinations-CEED, CUET etc. with academic and industry experts, along with a student oriented workshop and screening of film and photography.

This event is planned with an objective to discuss the significance and scope of research in the field of visual art and design, evoking pedagogical and industrial aspects of art and design practices in social-cultural and technological contexts. The fest will also host an exhibition on the various design projects accomplished by Redesign for various organizations and institutions.”

Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty who inaugurated the fest proceedings as he said that this kind of an arrangement will encourage the budding art talents across this region. The host organisation has been working to promote art and design in Barak Valley since 2017 and their effort over here will attract more talents into the realm of art and design which will be a very good development for Cachar district, he feels.

Appreciating the activities of Redesign to promote art and design in this region, Prof D Udaya Kumar, a faculty in the Department of Design, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, said that such events laced with the need to lean about research importance in art and design shall spread awareness and quest among the younger generation.

An impressive gathering of youngsters and school students was witnessed at the event. It may be mentioned that some of the acclaimed short films produced by filmmakers of Silchar along with talks on research and innovation will also feature in the event.
