Audit officer pressurized Kuldeep for illegal gratification: Police

Silchar, Jan 9 : Cachar Police on Monday arrested an Audit Officer of State Bank Of India on charges of abetting the Branch manager of SBI Kabuganj Branch Kuldeep Das Gupta to commit suicide.

Kuldeep’s mother Aloka Das Gupta lodged an FIR at Sonai Police Station yesterday regarding her son’s mysterious death. In the FIR, Kuldeep’s mother Aloka Dasgupta alleged that the activities of two persons created difficulties and pressure in discharging of his duties and she strongly suspect that those two people named Yogendra Pandey (Audit Officer, SBI) and Shibu Nath (sub staff of SBI Kabuganj Branch) either killed or abetted her son to commit suicide to hide their misdeeds.

Based on it, Cachar Police earlier detained Audit officer Yogendra Pandey for interrogation and later arrested him on Monday.

“Following the investigation, prima facie it appeared that he abetted Kuldeep to commit suicide. He was about to escape out when we nabbed him from Silchar railway station. He had asked for illegal gratification which created a situation that forced Kuldeep to commit suicide” Cachar SP Numal Mahatta said.

Cachar SP Numal Mahatta further mentioned that police have received complaints from other district SBI banks too against the Audit officer. “He also asked Kuldeep to buy him a ticket for the ODI match between India and Srilanka to be held in Guwahati tomorrow,” said SP.

Police mentioned that they are looking into the case very strongly and if anyone else is found to be associated with the crime then will be brought under the purview of the law.
