Berserk dog injures 20 in Katigorah; monkey menace continues

Katigorah, Jan 22 (Shamindra Paul) : As many as 20 people of Katigorah were injured when a mad dog went berserk-biting people during the early hours of Friday.

The injured have been rushed to the government civil hospital from where some have been referred to Silchar medical college for treatment, as per report.

According to the details of the incident, a mad dog started biting in the lower limb of any person walking past the dog near Bank of Baroda at Katigorah Chowrangi on Friday afternoon. About twenty people were injured in the attack.

The patients who came to Katigorah Model Hospital after being bitten by the dog are Nur Hussain, Sangeeta Biswas, Nitish Das, Kripasindhu Das, Sumon Das, Biswajit Das, Nadia Lashkar, Intaz Ali, Pallabi Nath, Mohi Uddin Barabhuiyan among others. Among them, is also a six-year-old child. They are residents of Chowrangi Katirail, Mohanpur, Tikarpara, and Jagadishpur areas.

Some locals tried to catch the dog, but the dog was so ferocious that it could not be controlled. Panic has gripped the area as the dog still roams free in the locality.

Apart from this dog menace, the residents of Katirail locality are also living under constant fear as monkeys have been on a rampage, attacking people and damaging their crops and homes in the area. Locals say monkeys have been inhabiting the area for a long, but their attacks have gone up in the past few months. One Sitaram Das was seriously injured in a monkey attack on Thursday.
