Silchar, Feb 16: Cachar District Administration, on Wednesday, signed an MoU with Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) for providing advanced life support ambulance, ICU equipments and Bolero vehicle for blood bank for Silchar under its Corporate Social responsibility(CSR) activity at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli and Supriya Paul , Deputy General Manager, power grid corporation Ltd incharge, Silchar unit in presence of Senior General Manager, Anup Sharma, Anup Paul , Chief Manager ,power grid corporation and on behalf of Cachar Administration, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad, Cachar and Additional Deputy Commissioner, health, Eldad Lalthakum Faihriem, Joint Director of Health, Cachar,Dr Ashutosh Barman, Superintendent of SMC&H ,Dr Abhijit swami, District Project Manager, NHM were present during the signing ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Keerthi Jalli said “We are glad to sign MOU with Power grid corporation as part of their Corporate Social responsibility activity, we shall also hope to work with them for developmental initiatives in the days ahead”.
Expressing gratitude to the Power Grid Corporation for donating life saving equipments for the district, Jalli Keerthi said “An ALS ambulance was much-needed here. ALS ambulances prove handy in emergency cases and life-saving cases. We are thankful to the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. ALS ambulances help in extreme cases. They help to shift critical patients from one hospital to another. Even it can take a patient to outside places for further treatment”.
As part of its Social responsibility, PGCIL donated an ALS ambulance, ICU equipment for Civil Hospital and a Bolero vehicle for blood bank, Silchar. The entire project amounts to 1.7 crores.
While elaborating on the health infrastructure of the District, Jalli said “The health infrastructure in Cachar district is gradually improving but still the patients of the district have to go to Shillong or Guwahati at least for many services. Last year, a number of patients were airlifted to Guwahati or other parts of the country, but not every patient could afford to spend that much. This advanced life support ambulance will be able to save the lives of many patients”.
Deputy Commissioner informed that the cost of the ambulance provided by Power Grid is around Rs 45 lakh. “They are also providing a Bolero vehicle for the blood bank at Silchar Civil Hospital, with adequate funding to build ICU services on the Civil Hospital premises. We believe that they will continue to support the Cachar district administration in terms of infrastructural development through their CSR activities” she continued.
“Although there are doctors at Silchar S.M Dev Civil Hospital, they often do not have the courage to treat critically ill patients as there is no ICU. If we could build an ICU, many patients would be treated here and those who came here in critical condition could be saved,”Jalli quipped.
On behalf of Power Grid, Deputy General Manager, Power grid corporation, Incharge , Silchar unit, Supriya Paul who is also the son of Silchar, said on the occasion “POWERGRID , CPSE, under MoP, Govt of India enterprise has taken up this special initiative under CSR scheme for funding health care items worth Rs.1.7469 Cr (consisting of 1 no. Advanced life support ambulance for NHM/Dist Authority, ICU equipment set & 1no.Blood bank vehicle for S.M Dev Civil Govt hospital, Silchar”.
“Today MOU was signed between POWERGRID & District health society Cachar. I am thankful to Dist Authority, DC Cachar, ADC-Health, Cachar, Jt Director Health & NHM office for giving POWERGRID the opportunity to serve society & humanity. We are also thankful to POWERGRID Management & all who are present during this MOU signing ceremony to bring this to reality as ALS in valley & ICU in civil hospital is need of the hour.
Executive Director R K Tyagi ji ( NERTS Regional Head) and his CSR team with SDGM HR Regional HQ & Silchar Unit took special emphasis for early approval of the same. ED NERTS conveyed heartfelt gratitude through POWERGRID’s Silchar team to District Authority & Health department, NHM as associated to implement the project & requested all concerned for early implementation.

Dr. Ashutosh Barman, joint director of the health department, said “With the active intervention of DC, Cachar and personal interest shown by DGM, POWER GRID Supriyo Paul, POWER GRID under its CSR activities has agreed for providing ICU equipments for establishing ICU at SM DEV CIVIL HOSPITAL. After signing the agreement, DPR will be prepared and all the equipments will be procured through the open tender process”
Chief executive officer, Zilla Parishad Cachar and Additional Deputy Commissioner health Eldad Lalthakum Faihriem also spoke on the occasion.
