Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli IAS held a conference with media persons at her office conference hall on Sunday. Additional deputy commissioner Sumit Sattawan IAS and Media expert NHM Suman Choudhury also attended the press meet.
At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner listened to the issues and suggestions brought forth by the press persons from the ground on developments regarding the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the district.
Responding to the questions, the Deputy Commissioner said the detection of the two cases of COVID-19 positive with no travel histories has rung the alarm bells and people of the district must stay alert and maintain self restraint in their activities. She urged the people to strictly follow the rules for safety as stated by the Government and restrict their movements out of homes unless there is unavoidable emergency requirement. Each person has a sphere of influence on four people and together we can do something about it. From the city down to the Gaon panchayat, each citizen must realize the responsibility of self-precaution and follow the guidelines for personal as well as common safety.
However, the Deputy Commissioner expressed her disappointment over the behavior by some students and youngsters kept at a quarantine centre at Don Bosco school who had allegedly created chaos with demands for one room one toilet. In her words, the quarantined persons must realize the situation we all are passing through and co-operate with the administration which is putting up untiring efforts to save people from the clutches of the virus.
Regarding the issue of food being served cold in the quarantine centres, the Deputy Commissioner informed that the issue has been addressed and a caterer for each quarantine centre has been attached so that people get fresh food and on time as well.
She emphasized on the need for frequent hand washing and social distancing at all levels.
Further wishing people on the occasion of Eid -al Fitre festival, the Deputy Commissioner requested everyone to celebrate the festival by staying indoors and praying from homes considering the gravity of the situation.
