Hailakandi, June 3 : In yet another case of attack on Covid warriors, a doctor employed at Hailakandi Civil hospital was allegedly manhandled by relatives of a Covid victim last Thursday, the case which came to light today.
The patient was admitted at the Civil hospital after he complained of respiratory distress. The man died at the hospital on same day.
Narrating the incident, Dr. Gaurab Bhattacherjee of the Hailakandi hospital mentioned, the patient died within minutes of admission at the hospital, informing which to the relatives, the latter started hurling abuses and attacking him.
“I examined the patient and referred him to the bed. But unfortunately, he passed away in 5-10 mins of admission. I was called by the attendants of the patient, who were forcing me to refer him to other hospital. I mentioned to them that the patient already expired, to which they started yelling at me and misbehaving. I was also warned of dire consequence if located outside the hospital campus” Dr. Gaurab Bhattacherjee said.
According to doctor’s account, the patient was afflicted with COVID and was detected posthumously.
The Hailakandi SP Ramandeep Kaur, replying to a query of this website, said the process of identification of the accused are on and very soon arrests will be made. “Initially the doctor was reluctant in filing the FIR but after a lapse of two days he launched a complaint on 29th May. We are investigating the case” Kaur said.
