Silchar, Jan 10 : A police official was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his quarter at the 15th AP (IR) Battalion at Eraligool under Patharkandi police station in Karimganj district on Sunday.
The deceased Shyama Prasad Chakraborty (57) was a resident of Ranighat, on the outskirts of Silchar town. He had joined as a DSP at the 15th AP (IR) Battalion at Eraligool in Karimganj district in 2019.
Sources said Shyama Prasad, like other days, went to his quarter at Eraligool, about 62km from Silchar, on Saturday evening after his duty hours. When he did not open the door of his room till 8am on Sunday morning, the other officials at the battalion camp called him from outside his room, but he did not respond. The camp’s commandant and few other officials were then informed.
Eventually, the door of Shyama Prasad’s room was broken and it was found that he was lying on his bed and was no more. His family members were informed about the matter following which his family members reached the camp. The dead body was recovered and the deceased was given honour guard and then sent to a hospital in a coffin for post-mortem, sources said.

Another source in police said prima facie the official died of a heart attack. The picture will become completely clear after the post-mortem report is available, the source said.
Shyama Prasad, son of late Sudhir Chakraborty, was suffering from diabetes for the past many months and he was taking medication for the ailment. He is survived by his wife, son, daughter and many other relatives.
