Fire engulfs a house in Katigorah; locals save locality

Katigorah, Oct 24 (Shamidra Paul): House of a day labor was completely gutted in fire on Saturday night, at Katigorah’s Harinagar pt 2 village, adjacent to Indo-Bangladesh.

According to the details of the incident, the fire broke out in the house of Selim Uddin around 6 pm. It is being suspected that the fire caught from the cooking stove which within minutes engulfed the whole residence. The fire was reported to the disaster response department and Katigorah police. Upon receiving the news, both the department rushed to the spot.

However, before they left, activists from local NGO and neighbors joined hands to control the fire, with the help of pumping water from the nearby pond. The fire was brought to much control before handing over the operation to state disaster response force.

But unfortunately, Selim’s house got completely burned away. Onlookers estimate, close to 2 lakhs of loss for the day earner Selim Uddin.

Meanwhile, Katigorah MLA Khalil Uddin Majumder, who is currently in Guwahati, got the information about the incident and contacted Selim Uddin over phone. He also assured the victim to get a financial assistance from administration.
