Haflong, Apr 5 : A total of five polling officials, including a sector officer, have been suspended for lapses during the conduct of poll at Dima Hasao during second phase of election.
As per information, an auxiliary Polling Station PS No. 107-A Khothlir L.P. School in the Hallong Legislative Assembly Constituency was established for the first time for ongoing General Election 2021. As per the valid electoral roll, there are only 90 electors against this Polling Station but total of 181 votes were casted at Polling Station on 1st April, 2021.
“During the scrutiny of Presiding Officer diary and other documents, it was found out that the Presiding Officer and the Polling Officers of 107-A Khothlir L.P. School have allowed 181 persons to cast their votes against the total 90 voters against that P.S. The Presiding and first Polling officer in their statements have admitted that they allowed the voters registered against the Main polling station, to cast their votes in the Auxiliary polling station” a press note from the election commission said on Monday.
Sector Officer Seikhosiem Langhum, Fishery Development Officer, Presiding Officer Prahlad Roy, Headmaster, Nayapur ME School, First Polling Officer Parameshwar Charangsa, Assistant Teacher, Hadingma High School, Second Polling Officer Swaraj Kanti Das, Assistant Teacher, Zion ME School and Third Polling Officer Lalzamio Thiek, SCFW, Maibang Soil Conservation Division are suspended.
“Taking note of this lapse, the District Election Officer has suspended the Sector Officer, the Presiding Officer and 3 (three) other Polling Officers, Booth Level Officer of 107-A Khothlir L.P. School, for dereliction of duty. The Returning Officer through District Election Officer has recommended repoll at both of these Polling Stations” ECI noted.
The two polling stations are PS No. 107-A Khothlir L.P. School and PS No. 107 Khothlir L.P. School.
