Investigation ordered in the Sonai incident, situation brought to control : ADGP

Sonai, Apr 1 : Tension erupted at the 463 number Dhanehari LP School Booth on Thursday evening, after a voter allegedly tried to cast vote without bringing voter slip.

It was learnt that, as per eye witness version, a voter named Qadir Ahmed was stopped by the CRPF at the booth center when he went to cast his vote without a voter slip. At the time when Qadir was trying to understand from the CRPF jawan on why he is being stopped, Sonai BJP candidate Aminul Haque Laskar, allegedly, appeared near the duo and mishandled the youth.

Slowly the small exchange of words turn into commotion and a ruckus was created. The gathered locals than pushed the MLA inside the polling station, on which the bodyguards of Laskar reportedly fired shots, in which two people sustained injuries.

Upon receiving the news, Cachar police officers including SP BL Meena and ADGP SN Singh rushed to the spot, along with reinforcement, and tried to calm the situation. Hours later after having dialogue with the agitators, the polling personnel and the MLA, who were gheraod inside the booth, was rescued.

The ADGP SN Singh speaking to the media, said the situation has been brought to control and three people including a police personnel were injured in the incident. “There are many version emerging of the incident. We have ordered enquiry. The situation is calm. Two people have received injuries and one police personnel also sustained injuries at face. All three are stable in SMCH” he said.
