Karimganj, Nov 29 : In a much awaited announcement, the land for proposed Karimganj medical college has been finalized at Ratabari constituency of Karimganj district, as announced by BJP leader Krishnendu Paul on Monday.
Paul in an exclusive telephonic interaction with this website, informed that the Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called him up to inform the decision.
“This is a big announcement for Karimganj district. CM called me up today morning and informed me to share the announcement with media persons. The medical college will be constructed at Ratabari constituency whereas the Agri University will be coming up at Patharkandi” MLA Paul said.
Sharing his ecstasy, Ratabari MLA Bijoy Malakar thanked the Chief Minister for keeping the latter’s word. “I used to assure people that whatever our CM says he definitely fulfills. Today it has been manifested. The new medical college will serve the larger interests of entire southern Assam region” Malakar said to this website.
On asking the specific location of the land for the proposed college, Ratabari MLA said the CM is scheduled to visit the district next month and the best location out of the few selected will be finalized than.
It can be mentioned here that Karimganj medical college was first promised by Himanta Biswa Sarma on 2012 when he was health minister in than Congress regime. From then, it took 9 years for the government to decide the suitable land for the college and begin the administrative procedures.
