Karimganj boy swims to Bangladesh; family questions border management

Karimganj, Nov 23 : In broad daylight on Monday, a young boy from Karimganj swam across the Kushiyara River, across the open river border of Karimganj, and moved to Bangladesh for unknown reasons.

The youth has been identified as Abhijit Das (18) of Rangamati area under Bazarichhara police station of Karimganj district.

As per reports, Abhijit Das, son of Nishindra Das, left his house onmorning of November 18 but did not return. The family members after day long search ops, when could not managed to find their son, filed a complaint at Bazarichhara police station that day.

They were continuing their search till yesterday, when a video surfaced at social media, showing their son to swim across the Khusiyara River to reach Bangladesh. Without wasting any further minutes they reached out to Patharkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul and asked for assistance.

The MLA informed the matter to Superintendent of Police Padmanabha Barua and asked him to take appropriate action.

Meanwhile, the incident has raised question on border surveillance of the security forces. How someone can cross border while BSF on duty?
