Karimganj, Jan 17 : In a major crackdown against drug smuggling, Karimganj police seized 88 kgs of Yaba tablets in Badarpur on Tuesday. It is the biggest drug seizure in the state.
A team of Karimganj police intercepted one Alto car bearing registration no (AS-10A-6487) at Nischintapur in Bagargul and seized the quantity of drugs from the vehicle.
Police said a drug peddler identified as Hafiz Uddin was arrested in connection with the seizure.
Speaking to media persons, Karimganj Superintendent of Police Padmanav Baruah said, “It’s a proud moment for us because it was the biggest drug seizure in the State till date. Yaba tablets, of market value around Rs 40 crore, were seized by vigilant Home Guards of Assam police from a vehicle in Karimganj. Due to their alertness, we have successfully seized the huge quantity of drugs.”
