Silchar, Feb 23: Giving a boost to nationalist feeling of the people, a 100-feet monumental national flag was inaugurated at the Silchar Railway station on Tuesday by Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy in the presence of NF Railway ADRM Surat Jani, Area Manager S Umesh and other Railway officials.
Apart from the flag, two lifts were also inaugurated at platform number 1 and 2 of the station, giving a big leap to the passenger amenities of the station. These lifts will help rail passengers especially physically challenged, senior citizens and pregnant women to reach their boarding points with ease.
Addressing the gathering, MP Roy said that he has recently apprised the Union Railways Minister Piyush Goel about various shortcomings in Silchar railway station and accordingly a virtual meeting was held on Tuesday morning between top railway officials.
“I had a virtual meeting with the NFR GM, AGM and DRM and it was agreed that the Silchar station will soon have 100 meter PPE shed for facilitating embarking and de-embarking of passengers. Other than this, law and order situation, curbing theft cases were also discussed. By December this year, a multicusine food court will also come up at the station premise” Roy said.
He added that the Union Railways Minister has also been appraised about starting two inter-city express trains connecting Silchar Guwahati and Silchar Agartala and connecting the Silchar with Rajdhani express train.
