Silchar, May 31 : In a significant decision, the Assam government on Wednesday said that it will stop issuing the QR-based smart card of DL and RC certificates in next 3 months and will rather issue in electronic and printable PDF format.
The decision was taken during the cabinet meeting that was held on Wednesday evening. The cabinet justified it saying the decision will save public money, time and will also address the issues of postal delay and loss of cards.
The cabinet also decided to provide a compensation of 1 lakh each to the 1496 casual labours and 2.5 lakh each to 173 families of Doloo tea estate who would be displaced for the proposal of Greenfield airport.

The cabinet, in a meeting presided by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also decided to amend the Assam Food Security Rules, 2022 to change the maximum income criteria from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per annum,Tourism minister Jayanta Malla Barua said at a media briefing.
