Karimganj, June 5 : With incessant and heavy rains lashing the parts of Barak Valley, one picture coming common from either Silchar or Karimganj, water logged roads.
Residents of Karimganj town are experiencing a harrowing time due to waterlogging problems. Many market areas on Wednesday went under water after heavy rains lashed the town, the images of which went widely share among the social media users.
Residents were also fast enough to register their voice, who put barricades on road and started protesting against the poor drainage system of the town. Questions were common among the voice raisers, “where is the Master Drainage?”
After that, Karimganj District Administration held a meeting with all leading citizens along with Karimganj MP and a consensus was reached to clear the drains and remove all encroachments, as a result of which, there was water logging in the town.
Accordingly, from today onward Karimganj administration launched a 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐕𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐎𝐃𝐀, which means freedom or comfort in Sanskrit, to clear up the drains. Project was launched at Maizdi and Karimganj town. DC informed that it will continue for the next few days until all encroachments are cleared. “We are utterly committed and shall take resolute steps to prevent flooding in the town” administration’s official facebook page noted.
Karimganj MP Kripanath Mallah while speaking to mediamen said, “We took suggestions from many senior citizens of the city, political parties and have reached to a conclusion that any how the logged water need to be drained out. We visited many areas and have found that all drains are clogged, so from today onward clearing of the drains and eviction of the encroached structures have started.”
