Ravan Dahan draws great response in Silchar

Silchar, Oct 26 : Along with other parts of the country, the festival of Vijayadashami was celebrated with great pomp in Silchar. On the occasion, ‘Ravana Dahan’ was performed by Hindi Bhashi Yuva Manch, Silchar as a symbol of ‘victory of good over evil’.
The effigies were crafted by Maina Lal Gour. The 10 glans of Ravana had messages of freedom from untouchability, casteism, infiltration, greed, lust, anger, terrorism, adultery, favoritism, arrogance and corruption

In the event held at Ghungoor, along with Ravana, effigies of Kumbhakarna and Meghnad were also burnt. Further, Ram-Ravan yudh was also staged. A large number of people witnessed the proceedings with great enthusiasm. On this occasion, children presented themselves as Lord Ram, Mother Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman ji amidst loud echoes of people chanting Jai Shri Ram. A large number of local residents of the vicinity gathered and had darshan. Agrata Kumar as infant Lord Ram and Rajeshi Pal as young Lord Ram, Vishal as Lakshman, Riya Nunia as mother Sita, Sanjeev Nunia as Bir Hanuman while Sachi Dubey played the role of Ravana.

Pandit Anand Shastri was the chief guest on the occasion, and Kamlesh Singh, Phoolmati Kalwar, Dr. Baikunth Goala offered prayers to the Lord Ram. Seema Kumar, Prithviraj Gwala, Pradeep Kurmi, Jai Prakash Gupta, Subhash Chauhan and others were present on this occasion. In his speech, Pandit Anand Shastri said that the solutions to all problems lies in the ideals of Lord Ram and people at large must follow the ideals so that social evils are eradicated and good things are established. Kamlesh Singh said that it is a good sign that people in India are again adopting the age-old customs.
