Silchar, Aug 16 : Naman Awardee from BCCI and also Highest Wicket-taker In (U-19) Cooch Behar Trophy, Rahul Singh from Silchar, along with 2 others from Assam, have been selected as net bowlers for IPL’s Pink Jersey – Rajasthan Royals and are travelling to United Arab Emirates this September, venue of IPL 2020.
The IPL was scheduled to begin in late March but was indefinitely postponed due to the novel coronavirus outbreak before being shifted to UAE, starting this September 19.
Strict bio-security measures are being put in place for the 53-day tournament and the IPL’s eight teams will have to arrange their own net bowlers while maintaining the league, a Times of India reported.
Rahul Singh, who went stupefied after getting call announcing his selection, shared with this website, “I got the call on my birthday night and was overjoyed with the news. It was double celebration for me. I am moving for Guwahati tomorrow and from there will go to Mumbai to join the team”.
Rahul Singh has played Ranjit Trophy match and also currently in a team of Under 20 cricket.
Saying about selection for the new venture Rahul said “In February month I was called in Guwahati for a camp and after having one day session there total 4 players were selected and further called to Nagpur”.
Total 3 players have been selected as net bowler from Assam for Rajasthan Royals Team who are Jitumoni Kalita and Mrinmoy Dutta apart from Rahul.
Seeing the selection as a camp to learn and explore more, Rahul said after returning from IPL, he has Ranjit Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match. “I am eyeing a good performance in Syed Mushtaq Ali as it hosts possibility to get selected in IPL”
Expressing desolation on the news of retirement of Mahendra Singh Dhoni from International Cricket, Rahul said “Raina and Dhoni is my icon and for them I use to support CSK. It’s totally disheartening to learn the retirement of both”.
