Sonai, Apr 21 : Re-polling in one polling station under Sonai Assembly constituency (109 -463 No. Madhya Dhaneheri LP School) passed off peacefully on Tuesday, police sources said.
The earlier vote casted at the polling station was declared “void” by Election Commission of India after a firing incident on the polling day had left three people injured.
According to sources, around 81% polling was recorded till completion of the repoll at the centre.
The casting was largely peaceful, except a minor incident of detaining one person who went to cast proxy vote.
“Security was kept tightened with three layer arrangement. We deployed CAPF along with Quick response team. Forces were also deployed at the critical points. No untoward incident has reported from any corner of the LAC” Cachar SP BL Meena said to the media persons.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate and incumbent Sonai MLA Aminul Haque Laskar did not come to the booth this time. However AIUDF candidate Karim Uddin Barabhuiyan (Saju) toured the polling station and expressed hope of winning the election with high margin. “This is fight between BJP and villagers and the latter will win” he told the reporters.
DIG Devajyoti Mukherjee and other high-ranking officials visited the spot and camped for few time there. SP BL Mina, ASP Jagdish Das, ADC J Rajbangshi, Sonai Circle Officer Sudip Nath, DSP B Goswami, Magistrate Bikash Chhetri and others were seen at the polling booths throughout the day. Cachar district magistrate Keerthi Jalli also visited the station at the end of poll.
