Two NHs in dilapidated condition, citizens express dejection

The deplorable condition of two NHs connecting Assam Tripura (NH8) and Assam Mizoram (NH6) has irked many, among the daily commuters and residents of the respective area, as locals claim the roads not repaired for years.

The condition of Assam Tripura road (NH-8) from Kanaibazar to Mundamala is in such a sorry state, that two and three wheelers get dip half on the crater size holes. About daily trucks get stuck in the holes, creating hours long jam until the truck is pulled back again.

“We are in great trouble as after repeated complain nothing has changed” said a local journalist, Nihar Ranjan expressing sorrow.

Dilapidated NH8

On Contacting Patharkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul, he informed that he personally met Union Minister Nitin Gadhkari regarding this road and got 22 crores amount sanctioned for 6.7 km of the damaged road. “I have heard that RPP Infra projects limited got the work and they will start shortly. Work getting delayed due to the COVID pandemic.”

Another side, condition of NH6, connecting Assam with Mizoram in Hailakandi district, also in shambles condition.

Rajen Hazam from Progressive Students & Youth Forum, said road has become unusable for even walking. “The condition of National Highway at Gharmura Bus Stand under South Hailakandi development block has been fully damaged since some years back. This is the only way which connects to Mizoram and also it is a market place where people gather in huge number. I urge the administration to pay heed on urgent.”
