Unhappy over ticket distribution, BJP workers protest, burn tyre

Krimganj, Mar 6 : Unhappy over the distribution of tickets for the Assam Assembly 2021 elections, BJP  workers staged a demonstration at the party office in Karimganj on Friday.

The party faction held protest saying the current candidate is “unsuitable” and declaring him means surrender of the seat to Congress’s probable and strong hold candidate Kamalakhya Dey Purakayastha.

The workers burnt tyre to lodge their protest amid scathing sloganeering against Assam BJP president Ranjeet Dass, Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy and others.

The faction was supporters of former MLA Mission Ranjan Das which was evident from “Mission Ranjan Das Zindabad” slogans raised by them. Das lost the 2016 election to Purakayastha with 468 votes.

The protests continued for some time until the district BJP President, Subrata Bhattacherjee intervened and calmed the party workers.

On the other hand, as Manas Das is the candidate from N Karimganj seat, his supporters, including party leaders and activists from rural areas, went to his residence to celebrate his candidature along with bursting crackers and sweats.

In his response, Dr. Manas Das thanked the district BJP leaders and workers, including the state leadership, for getting him party nomination. He assured all the party workers that he will work under blessings and direction from the senior leader Mission Ranjan Das.
