SILCHAR, November 11: Krira Bharati ,Silchar felicitated the 11players of the Cachar district who have participated and have won gold,silver and bronze medals in their respective categories in the 5th State level Fencing Championship 2021, which was held at Nehru Indoor stadium, Guwahati on 30th & 31st October.
The players were given a special reception at an elite hotel in Silchar on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion DC Jalli said”It’s a proud moment for all of us that players from the Cachar District have won the medals in the 5th State level fencing championship and also got selected for the national championship,it’s indeed a great achievement for which we all should be feeling proud”.
” There was a restriction on sports competition and other activities due to Corona pandemic, now the Government and the District Administration have a plan to restart the sport”She added.
Elaborating on the plans on the development of the infrastructure of the sports taken by the present Government ,DC Jalli said “Various discussions are going on at the government level regarding the development of fencing infrastructure” .
Motivating the students, Jalli said “At present ,athletes are participating in the Olympics from the different parts of the country ,be it from rural and urban areas,they are making the nation proud by winning the medals, I am hopeful that if Hyderabad was called the Badminton Capital of India, Haryana the Wrestling Capital, Silchar could also be made the fencing capital of India”.
“My ardent appeal to the parents to motivate their children in sports along with their studies,I personally advise the students, especially the girls, to focus on the sports at the international level, sports is not only meant for physical beauty or staying healthy, sports also boost morals of the people and because of that strong mentality, the students succeed in their life in the long run”.Jalli quipped.
Purnendu Das, Joint-Secretary, Assam Pradesh Sports Bharati and Vivek Poddar also spoke on the occasion.
It is pertinent to mention that 12 players from the Cachar District participated in the 5th state level fencing championship and out of which 11fencing players won the medals and got selected to qualify for the national championship.
The programme was also attended by District President, Manidhan Singh, Vice-President of the organization, Gopendu Chowdhury, Adviser, Gopal Roy, Shankar Das, Arindam, Kankan Narayan Sikdar and others.
